Add L-Lysine to your diet.
The virus that causes cold sores thrives on and hides in a protein in our bodies called L-Arginine.  This protein is abundant in nuts and seeds and a variety of other foods.  L-Lysine, on the other hand, is a protein that cold sores do not thrive on or hide in, found abundantly in fish.  The secret to preventing cold sores is to increase foods containing L-Lysine  and reduce intake of foods that contain L-Arginine.  The following link is a food chart listing quantities of L-Arginine and L-Lysine.  By eating foods higher in L-Lysine, you should be able to keep those cold sores from appearing.
